His friends from California have been seriously concerned in regard to him. fearing he would not survive the terrible ordeal of delivery. but he has. and it now appears after a few days of rest. he will be himself and clothed again in his right mind. I am pleased to know and to hear from the gentlemans own lips just what the duty of the President of the United States is. I am glad to know what the duty of an Attorney General is. and what the duties are of the Secretary -of the Interior. the Secretary of Labor. and the Commissioner of Immigration. for he has told us. I feel highly honored today to think that the man who has this remarkable ability to tell what these men in high places should do. hails from my native State--California. fApplause and laughter on the Democratic side.] I trust if the time ever comes when It iS necessary to establish a new branch of the Federal Government and to appoint a man who shall be commissioned to tell the other Cabinet officers and the President what they should do. that the name of the gentleman from California.
