The canal will also provide new facilities for the immigration of agricultural classes from the Old World. Already. it is said. arrangements have been made for the trausportation of large numbers of people from the shores of the Mediterranean to the Pacific coast. The one great problem in connection with the development of the West is transportation to the great consuming centers of the East.
