Session #62 · 1911–13

Speech #620313899

Mr. President. in view of what was stated upon the floor of the Senate on yesterday when the immigration bill and the veto of President Taft on this same bill were considered. I wish to say just a few words in order to make my position clear. After reading Secretary Nagels letter to the President. I became more firmly convinced than ever before that the resident was justified in vetoing the bill. But. Mr. President. I would not take up the time of the Senate to make even this short statement were it not for the fact that the senior Senator from Massachusetts . in his able speech in favor of this measure. made what J consider at least an.uncharitable remark and which. in my opinion. is a reflection upon those who disagreed with him.
