That section 4 of the act approved June 29. 1906. entitled "An act to establish a Bureau of Immigration and Naturalization and to provide for a uniform rule for the naturalization of aliens throughout the United States." is hereby amended by adding two subdivisions to read as follows: " Seventh. That any alien of the age of 21 years and upward who has enlisted or may hereafter enlist in the Armies of the United States. either the Regular or the Volunteer forces. or in the United States Navy or Marine Corps. or in the RevenueCutter Service. or who is serving or has served on board a merchant vessel of the United States may. after three years of such service. while still In the service or within six months after an honorable discharge tl.hrefrom. petition for naturalization in any court authorized to grant citizenship . and the honorabledischarge certificate of such alidn from. the service of the United States. or a certificate of such three years service and good conduct during that time. signed by a commissioed officer under whom he is serving. or an affidavit of tie master of said merchant vessel certifying to snai three years service and good conduct. as aforesaid. and the affidavits of two credible wtnesses. citizens of the United States identifying the applicant as tile person named in the certificate presented. shl he deemed competent and sufficient ioof of the residence and good noral character required by la. and either the original or a verified copy of such discharge shall be attached to and made a part of tie petition . sus applicant siall not e required to prove ne years residence withlin the State in which he files his application. to become a citizen. and the petition of any such alien shall he docceted and final hearing had thereon by the court immediately. or at the convenience of tie court. That sections 2166 and 2174 of the Revised Statutes of tie United States of A derica. and so much of an act approved July 26. 1894. entitled "All act making provisions for the naval service for the fiscal year cnding June 30. 1805. and for other purposes." beiing chapter 165 of the laws of 1894 (28 Stat. L.. p. 124). reading as foflos : "Any alien of the age of 21 years and upward who has enlisted or may enlist in the United States Navy or Marine Corps. and las served or may hereafter serve fe consecutive years in the United States Navy or one enlistment in the United Stes Marina Corps. and has been or may hereafter be honorably discharged. shall be admitted to become a citizen of the United States upon his petition. without any previous declaration of his intention to become such. and the court admitting such alien. shall. in addition to proof of good moral character. be satisfied by competent proof of such persons service in and honorable discharge from the United States Navy or Marine Corps". and all acts .or parts of acts inconsistent with or repwgnant to the provisions of this act are hereby repealed : but nothing in this act shall repeal or in any way enlarge section 2169 of the Revised Statutes: Provided. That for the purposes of the prosecution of all crimes and offenses against the naturalization laws of the United States which may have been committed prior to this act the statutes and laws hereby repdaled shall remain n full force and effect: Providcd further. That as to all aliens who. prior to January 1. 1866. served in the Armies of the United States and were honorably discharged therefrom. section 2166 of the Revised Statutes of the United States shall be and remain in full force and effect. anything in this act to the contrary notwithstanding.
