Mr. Chairman. in the majority report of the committee on this bill they say. "It will be seen that the main purpose of the bill is to exclude from the United States alien inmigrants over 16 years of age who are unable to read their own language or dialect." This is hardly the fact. The real object of the bill is to stop. in part. the flow of immigrants to this country from Russia. Poland. Italy. Greece. and the other contries of the southern and eastern part of Europe. It is certainly amusing to one who personally knows many of these people who have come from these countries to listen to some of the arguments which are made by gentlemen in support of this bill.
