Session #62 · 1911–13

Speech #620231051

Mr. Speaker. just a word. if the gentleman from Alabama will permit. This bill further guards. as I understand the gentleman from Alabama. the immigration of insane people from foreign countries to this country. Therefore. I made the request which I did. that it might be considered as passed. I want to say further. that while I have certain fixed notions about immigration to this country I have no stone to throw in the way of the consideration of an immigration bill. but being in the minority I am powerless. although I am told that for months past a Senate bill. has rested upon the calendar. It seems. however. our friends. the majority side of the House. are sidestepping it until after the next election. Whom do they want to fool?
