Session #62 · 1911–13

Speech #620198678

I have no doubt that the committee in the usual course of its business wrote this letter to the Secretary of Commerce and Labor and also to the Secretary of the Treasury. The Secretary of Commerce and Labor sidestepped an answer to the letter by stating that the building site was under the control of the Treasury Department. That is because they did not want to make any reply upon it. The gentleman from Maryland has obtained a reply from the Secretary of Commerce and Labor. and what does that Secretary say? He says he is inclined to think it would be better to have this immigration station on the waters edge. because the ventilation would be better there.
