We had political sorrows two years ago. due to Democratic misrepresentations. but they will not be repeated. and I do not think a paid advertisement in a Republican newspaper. if indeed it is a Republican newspaper. is of much value in this argument. I want to say a few words. and only a few words. in reply to the Senator from Nebraska . who was very courteous in yielding to interruptions. The Senator spoke about the population of the eastern industrial States and the population of the western agricultural States. and found fault because more of the immigrants from Europe come to the Eastern States than to the agricultural States of the West. If the Senator could devise some means by which 50 per cent of those immigrants or more would go to the West and engage in agricultural pursuits. it would be a wise solution of what I regard as a serious industrial situation in this country. I want to ask the Senator why if there is great profit in manufacturing the people of Nebraska and Kansas and Iowa do not engage in it. There is no law against it.
