They took the conditions as they found them in that particular year and ascertained the number of each class employed at that time. Of course. the figures of the last census were not available to the commission. but at this time one could easily trace the growth of manufactures during the last 10 years. We have been able to trace the increase of immigration to this country during the last 10 years from official sources. It is undoubtedly true that the manufacturing establishments of this country have employed an increasingly large number of immigrants. We have no data upon which to answer the question whether they are employing more native Americans than they were five years ago.
