As every presidential election comes on you will hear a great deal of talk about instructions being sent out calling attention to the immense penalties that will be inflicted by the Postmaster General unless the political activity of postmasters stops. when it looks to me as if the Postmaster General merely talks in reference to these instructions and predicts these dire punishments. and the referee above referred to comes al61g and lets it be known that unless they stand by the party in power they will lose their heads. I have felt it a duty that I owe to myself and to my constituents to call attention to the facts I have mentioned as to the lack of postal facilities in my section. because my people seem to think that I ought to have some influence in having postal facilities granted them. Unfortunately for my section of Virginia we have a great deal of uncultivated land. and an effort is being made to induce immigrants from the West and other sections of the United States to come into our section of the country. and one of the main reasons that prevents them from doing this is because of the lack of mail facilities. I am impressed with the fact that my people have not been fairly dealt with. and there seems no redress except to bring the matter to the attention of this House. believing that some scheme may be devised by Which relief may be granted them.
