I was interested in his discussion of the immigration questioi. and I have very great sympathy with the position the Senator takes. as the Senator knows from conversation with me. and I shall be glad. indeed. to cooperate with the Senator in bring about better laws and a better condition in all parts of the country. I regret. however. that in his speech the Senator thought It was necessary to revive tile discussion about the condition of things in the industrial centers of New England. particularly in the city of Lawrence. and that he. I think someWhat inadvertently. perhaps. introduced the tariff question into the debate.
