At the end of section 2. on page 4 of the bill. insert the following.: That the annual amount collected from said aliens shall be used In defraying the expenses of qdministering the hiui ration laws and the maintenance of immigration stations. and any surlus remaining at the end of the fiscal year is hereby annually appropriated. to be paid as herein provided. to each State or Territory for the riore complete endowment and maintenance of the farmlife schools now established. or which may be hereafter established. for the benefits of agriculture. to be applied only to instruction in agriculture. the English language. and various )iranches of mathematical. physical. natural. and economic science. with special reference to their npplicatlons In farm life. and to the facilities of such Instruction. such as " to prepare boys for agricultural pursuits and farm life and girls for home making and housekeeping on the farm. including practical work on the farm by the boys and practical work In all subjects relating to housekeeping and home making by the girls " : Provid. That no State or Territory shall receive any of the benefits of this act unless such State or Territory shall appropriate a sum at least equal to the amount herein appropriated for a similar purpose. That the sums hereby appropriated to the States and Territories for the endowment. support. and maintenance of farmlife schools now established. or hereafter to be established. shall be annually paid on or before the .31st day of July of each year by the Secretary of the Treasury upon the warrant of the Secretary of Agriculture. out of the Treasury of the United States. to the State or Territorial treasurer. or to such officers as shall be designated by the laws of said State or Territory to receive the same. who shall pay over said sums to the treasurers of the respective farmlife schools entitled to receive the same. and such treasurer shall be required to submit to the superintendent of public Instruction In each State or Territory. and the superIntendents of public Instruction to the Secretary of Agriculture. on or before the 1st day of September of each year. a detailed statement of the amount so received and of Its disbursements.
