With the "pauper labor of Europe." about which the gentlemans party so often complains. houses in Europe ought to be sold cheaper than in our country. Mr. Speaker. I am not comparing those houses for the purpose of contending that we should be limited to $150.000. but to illustrate the point that the main thing this Government should do is to provide a home for our ambassadors in order to maintain the dignity of this great Government as it should be abroad. With $150.000 we will be able to find a suitable home. a dignified residence for our American ambassadgr in London. as in the days of Thomas Francis Bayard. when he paid only �1.000 a year for his house and furniture.
