Session #62 · 1911–13

Speech #620033499

It is a new country. A very large proportion of the settlers in this section have come from the United States. These people do not feel the bonds of the British Empire. they do ndt feel that they have any kinship with the people of the eastern Provinces of Canada. their relatives and friends are all south of the border line. except such as have emigrated with them. They have no interest in England and no particular love for the rest of the Dominion. They did not leave this country from any wish to give up their American citizenship. but because they believed that that part of Canada offered greater advantages than did the United States.
