More foreigners are coming into the United States now in one year than came in during the whole period from 1892 to 1897. More foreigners have come into the United States In the last 14 years under the reign of the Republican Party than came prior to that time in 60 years. The character of the immigrants that came In during the Cleveland administration was different from that of many who are coming ia now. The gentleman from Alabama . chairman of the Committee on Immigration. made a visit to Sicily two or three years ago. and he -asked. "Whathas becomeoIthe bandits. the awful .criminals .that we used to Tead about?" And he was told !by natives :that they .had all -gone to America. [A pplause on the Democratic side.]
