I may say that within the last five years over half a million of our people have gone across the border and settled on those Canadian lands. Agriculture is the chief and principal industry of these Provinces. The opening of our markets free to the farmers of these Provinces will. under the conditions prevailing there and which I have briefly pointed out. greatly stimulate immigration into these Provinces from the United States. to their gain and our loss. Cheap and fertile lands have heretofore. in later years. proved a great inducement and stimulation for emigration to Canada. in spite of the tariff embargo which has heretofore existed. If this embargo is removed and the farmers in these Provinces are given free access to our markets. there will be a rush of our people to these Provinces. and thus a double Injury will be inflicted upon our country by the pending reciprocity plana loss in people and a loss in prices of our agricultural products and our agricultural lands. In this connection I quote the following from the New York Sun of March 24. 1911:
