When the Democrats captured this House in the last election it became evident that Mr. CLARK. the gentleman from Missouri. would be elected Speaker of this House. and I think I can safely say that every gentleman on this side of the House feels that so long as a Democratic Speaker had to be elected. the Democrats were exceedingly happy in the choice of the distinguished gentleman from Missouri. I have had opportunity to come in close contact with him. in connection with matters appertaining to Asiatic exclusion. and so far as his candidacy for the Presidency is concerned. the Democratic Party can find no better candidate anywhere in this country.
