Mr. Chairman. I want the committee to know the fact that this means a saving of almost $1.000.000 a year to the Navy Department. and it Is a question we ought not to pass by lightly. As I started to say. when interrupted. I am not in favor of using British Columbia coal. but I would rather see British Columbia coal used by the navy yard on the Pacific coast. when it costs not more than half as much as Pocahontas coal. and is equally as good. than to send Pocahontas coal around to the Pacific coast In foreign ships. operated by Chinese coolies. when you can get the coal from British Columbia and lay it down in the yards upon the Pacific coast for the same money that you pay the foreign ships to carry this Pocahontas coal to the Pacific coast.
