Speaker. the spectacle of the gentleman from Illinois making a vicious and wholly unwarranted attack upon a committee of this House is nothing unusual. It is an exhibition that we often have. I desire only to say in regard to that that the present law for the suppression of the traffic in human flesh now upon the statute books was reported to this House by the Committee on Immigration and Naturalization. and under this law. since its passage. scores of indictments have been found. large numbers of offenders have been convicted. and many are now suffering the imprisonment due to their crimes. In the course of these indictments and trials and the investigations that preceded them it became apparent to the officers of the law that legislation supplementing the present law was desirable. and this bill is an attempt to pass such legislation. There is among certain Members of the House.
