Mr. President. and when you really touch- the chord. and when the peril comes home to the people. you can hear the response in trumpet tones. Look at the feeling of our extrenme western people on the Pacific coast against the importation of Asiatic labor. There is no use in talking "laissez faire." or "buN.ing in the cheapest and selling in the dearest -market" to them. they do not propose to have that competition at their doors. Their instinct is absolutely right. in my judgment. and that instinct is just as strong among the people on the other side of the imaginary line in British Columbia.
