Against this sort of crime our laws are weak. Either they must be kept out. or else a system of procedure must be devised which is potent and immediate enough to handle that sort of crime. The case of an alien who was arrested on November 27. 1908. will illustrate something of the difficulty the police department works under in trying to keep the city clear of alien criminals. On November 17. 1908. a warrant was requested for the arrest for deportation of an Italian from Naples. On November 20. 1908. the warrant was issued. On November 27. 1908. the man was arrested and delivered to Ellis Island.
