Yes. certainly. Out of the foreign vessels. 110 of them. about onehalf. are now equipped with proper upparatus and are able to communicate. There are a great many foreign vessels. however. bringing steerage passengers here that have no equipment of that character. They should be compelled to do so to protect human lives aboard. Among American vessels we find 127 equipped with this apparatus. 4 being on the Great Lakes. The reason that the latter are not included in this bill is because there are no stations. or very few. on the shores of the Great Lakes. so that a system of this character would be almost useless.
