I should doubt that. I remember that the first building cost something in the neighborhood of $300.000. and it seems to me if that building could be erected for that sum. this sum is wonderfully disproportionate to the number of people that arrive at the port of Philadelphia. cosiderably less than 100 immigrants a day. while at the other station more than 5.000 have been received in a day. and that has occurred on many days. Now. if that establishment could be erected for less than $400.000. it seems to me that $250.000 to care for the reception of less than 100 immigrants a day is an extravagantly large sum.
