I ask the Chair to lay before the Senate the bill which has colme front the House providing for the establishment of an inmmigration station at Charleston. The bill to provide for tile establishnent of an immigration station at Charleston. in the State of South Carolia. and the erection in said city. oil a site to be selected for said station. of a public building. was read the first tin by its title and the second time at length. as follows: Be it enacted. etc.. That the Secretary of the l)epartment of Commerce and Labor be. and lie Is hereby. authorized and directed to establish an immigration station at the city of Charleston. in the State of South Carolina. and to cause to be erected. on a site to be selected. a public building to temporarily accommodate and care for imnmigrants arriving at said city: Provided. That the land and dock room necessary for said station and building be transferred to the Government of the United States free of any cost to the United States. SEc. 2. That the sum of $70.000 Is hereby appropriated for the erection of said building. which sum shall he paid from the immigrant fund. said sum to include beating and ventilating apparatus. elevators. and approaches.
