Session #59 · 1905–07

Speech #590173465

There are many reasons why the appropriations should be increased rather than -reduced. I am especially interested that there should be no halt ill the work of topographical surveys. This part of the work of the Geological Survey benefits all agricultural interests of the country as well as prospective immigrants and home seekers. It is insisted by some that the States should do this work. but we all understand how impossible it would be for the States so thoroughly and so well to do the work. The keports do not have the same weight. and. furthermore. the work is nationa in its scope and importance.
