Its branches maintain GermanEnglish night schools for the teaching of the English language. the Constitution. and American history. and aim to make patriotic American citizens of German immigrants " It recommends the founding of educational societies and the holding of courses of lectures on art and science. " It advocates tile study of American institutions and tile publication of American history. and for that purpose is instrumental in publishing the GermanAmerican Annals by one of its branches. the GermanAmerican Historical Society. " It commemorates tie memory of great Americans. and at its third annual convention in Indianapolis resolved to celebrate the two hundredth anniversary of the birth of Benjamin Franklin. which celebration was observed by all its branches.
