Session #59 · 1905–07

Speech #590098611

Now. suppose the Government does appear in many cases. The Government ought to appear in every case in which there is any doubt. The Government ought to appear in every case that should be Investigated. These immigrants are coming to this country from all over the world. and all that may be required to be known concerning them before they are naturalized can not be determined in thirty or forty days. and therefore the Government ought to have all the time that is necessary. And it seems to me that ninety days. where inquiry has to be made in other countries. is not too much time.
