Session #59 · 1905–07

Speech #590088877

I rise to express my interest in this bill. being a member of the committee and having sat through all of the hearings. not only in this session of Congress. but in previous ones. and those hearings being fortified by the commission which was appointed to investigate and report on this subject. I think this legislation deserves almost if not the unanimous support of this House. I am particularly interested and would call the attention of the House to the second provision of Importance in this bill. which is that those who are about to become naturalized as citizens of the Republic should be made to establish the fact that they propose to live in this country. Having had to do somewhat with the foreign relations of our country. I have had brought to my attention the great abuse in this regard.
