Now. I care nothing about the merits of the proposition as to what the gentleman from New York said or did on the floor of this House on the occasion in question It has no relevancy to the question that we are now discussing. But let me say this: It is a conceded fact that all the"information that the gentleman from New York had in respect to this particular case he disclosed to the whole Committee on Immigration. He left that committee in session. he came up to the floor of this House and asked unanimous consent for the passage of the resolution referred to. A fair reading of the RECORD will show that he was going on to make a full statement of the case when he was interrupted by the gentleman from South Carolina. and there is nothing in the RECORD to show that the gentleman from New York had any intention to suppress or misrepresent anything.
