Session #59 · 1905–07

Speech #590057683

I am perfectly willing to explain the bill further. and meet the objections raised by the gentleman from Iowa. This is not an organization along anational lines at all. it is thoroughly and purely an American organization. No mani can become a member of it who is not a citizen of the United States. It is constituted for the purpose of aiding German immigrants. for instance. in their process of assimilation. in their process of naturalization. by explaining to them American institutions and American laws. and that purpose. it seems to me. is not only commendable. but should command the support and encouragement of Congress and of every man who is a Member of it.
