I know something about the cooly Chinamen. and Ibelieve the statement made by the senior Senator from Idaho [Mr. Dunois] is absolutely true. It is not a demand for the students or the merchants. It is a demand for the coolies. This demand is not made by the Chinamen alone. It is made by a great interest in this country and that interest makes the demand. in the first instance. because of the high price of labor here. and. in the second instance. the scarcity of labor in the United States.
