The court of errors and appeals of the State of New Jersey has held that the punitive order or the order punishing a prisoner for contempt of court can not be reviewed. and it will not take notice of an allegation that the acts forbidden were lawful. that the acts charged were not committed. that the acts charged were not proven. or that the punishment is cruel and unusual. So that we have this strange anomaly of. ofie judicial officer mightier and -more powerful then we have been -led to believe were the combined legislative. executive. and judicial departments of the Government. The laboring men in this country realize that if these scattering decisions of the courts were permitted to crystallize in the settled law of the land their condition would be reduced far below the muchfeared pauper laborer of Europe and have asked this Congress to protect them against this vision. The following bill was introduced: [H. R. 89.
