Mr. Chairman. the bill is to limit immigration from the Orienta Chinese immigration bill attached to this appropriation bill. I admit that this bill goes further. but it relates to the same subjectmatter. It is a bill to limit immigration to this country. . Now. I am not going into an extended argument. I think it is germane to the main subjectmatter. I want to say that this question of excluding immigration has come before the House. and it has been admitted here by unanimous consent. by the consent of this side of the House. without an opportunity on our part to know or understand the bill you bring in here. and sowe must pass it in the twilight hours of the day. and I say that it does not come with good grace from the Republican side of the House to raise the point of order against a proposition that every man in this country who earns his daily bread by his daily toil has indorsedthat every man who labors for his living asks you to pass. He does not ask you to protect him with tariff laws. but to protect him against the pauper labor of Europe that is pouring into this country at your open ports. I say it is not in good grace on the part of the Republican party or in good faith to those people to raise the point of order here. when you have received from us unanimous consent to patch up your bwn defective legislation.
