It will thus be seen that when we come to look at this matter from a practical standpoint it is a most serious question. Mr. Chairman. there were great difficulties presented in meeting the question how to overcome this evil. Our Republic is open to every honest. healthy man. to every man who desires to secure political and religious freedom. and I should be the last man who would want to shut the door against any of that class.
