Session #58 · 1903–05

Speech #580024445

The gentleman says that the proposition is true. that if a man has "D. I." opposite his name and goes up to vote. if he has in the meanwhile become naturalized and produces his naturalization papers. then he does not have to make an affidavit. Yet the majority of this committee have found that the election officers were guilty of fraud because they allowed men with those letters opposite their names to vote. They call particular attention to the number at each of the three precincts thrown out. and infer fraud. If you want to accept that sort of an inference. you can do it.
