The Republican party through all of its history has been and still is a party devoted to the interests of the classes and indifferent to the wishes and wants of the people. Posing as the friend of the laboring man. it relaxes the rules against Chinese immigration and fills the mines and factories with pauper labor imported to break down labor organizations and lower the rate of wages. It made the greenback a legal tender in payment of the soldiers. the farmer. and merchant. but not good enough to pay the interest on the bond. This Republican party enabled the rich to buy the bonds at 50 cents to the dollar of gold and then made the bonds payable in gold and doubled the fortune of every bondholder.
