Speech #570111095

His theory is that the Indians educated at the Carlisle school should never be sent back to the reservation. but should remain as a permanent part of the civilized population of the country. There are only about 250.000 of them. They can readily be absorbed in the entire population of the United States. and the effort to keep them as a separate organization is a mistake." We do not attempt to do that with any other portion of our fellowcitizens. We have immigrants from many foreign countries. We do not try to keep them separate and distinct. They mingle with our people. and the mingling of Indian blood has not been to the injury of the white race.
