I should like to say to the Senator from Pennsylvania that as to that particular point upon the Rio Grande River where the water disappears I do not claim to have any personal knowledge. Of the Arkansas River. which is one of the Colorado rivers. as is the Rio Grande. I know something of its early history. Before there was an acre of land cultivated in the State of Colorado. at a certain point on the river the river disappeared and reappeared many miles below. That was true when the first immigration went up the river. It is said by the people living below that it is because we use the water. Probably it has always been the case on that river.
