Session #57 · 1901–03

Speech #570092816

I shall interpose no further objection. But as other sections of the bill are reached I shall endeavor to get some -further light on the subject. The proposed amendment to which the junior Senator from Massachusetts has called attention will undoubtedly to some extent remedy the difficulties of which I complain. but I quite agree with the Senator from Ohio that the term "alien passenger" will not cover the difficulty and that it would be very much better to use the term "immigrant." I think the definition of the term "immigrant" is a person who comes into the country for the purpose of remaining.
