I submit an amendment to the immigration bill. House bill 12199. which is the unfinished business. I should like to have the amendment read. so that it will go into the RECORD. and referred to the Committee on Immigration. The imendment was read. and referred to the Committee on Immigration. as follows: Insert the following: "Whenever an alien shall have taken up his ermanent residence in this country and shall have filed his preliminary declaration to become a citizen. and thereafter shall send for his wife or minor children to join him they shall be admitted without the payment of any tax or fee. "If said wife or either of said children shall be found to be affected with any contagious disorder. and it seems that said disorder was contracted on board the ship in which they came. such wife or children shall be held. under such regulations as the Secretary of the Treasury shall prescribe. until it shall be determined whether the disorder will be easily curable or whether they can be permitted to land without danger to other persons. and they shall not be deported until such facts have been ascertained. "If it shall be found that they are cured. or curable by a brief detention. and they can be detained without danger of infection. they shall be kept in custody. under such regulations. at the cost of the carrier or company who have brought them into the country: and they shall thereafter be deported or set at liberty. as the facts may require."
