Free trade amongst the States has never lowered the price of labor or worked injury to American interests. Wherever our flag floats the price of labor advances. Under our immigration laws this would soon be the case in Cuba. and the price of labor in both countries would be the same for the same work. With annexation Cuba would have the best market in the world for all her products at her very doors in her sister States unhindered by duties. and the farmers and manufacturers of the States would supply everything needed by Cuba as against all other countries. It is claimed that annexation would destroy the promising and growing beetsugar industry of the United States.
