Mr. Chairman. it seems to me that the amendment of the gentleman from Missouri by no means meets the object that will be accomplished by the amendmeat of the gentleman from Alabama . The one will not lessen immigration and the other will. The gentleman from Illinois said much about the quality of the immigrants that have come into this country. and of course we are all immigrants or the descendants of them. But I want to say to the committee that the most important question is not about the quality. but about the quantity. of the immigrants that are coming into this country. We have had before us. in reference to various measures. remonstrances and delegations from trades Lmions that represent the great mass of wageworkers in this country. and I say. Mr.
