If this is to continue. the level of the wages and the standard of living of the laborer will continue to fall until finally under "the iron law" of wages. which allots to the laborer only the wage necessary to maintain him in such condition that he can continue to work and propagate his species. the American laborers as a class will sink to the level of their alien competitorsthe level of European pauperism.
