The gentleman from Missouri asked the gentleman from Alabama the question whether or not he thinks an immigrant should be barred from coming to this country because he could not read and write if he intends to become a citizen of the United States. I will ask the gentleman from Alabama if he has carried his investigation far enough to know what percentage of these people of whom he has been talking. who come to this country from southern Europe. come here with the intention of making their home in this country and what percentage come here with the intention of acquiring a few hundred dollars and then going back to Italy or to the different countries there?
