The joint resolution of July 7.1898 (U. S. Stat.. 189798. p. 751). provides as follows: There shall be no further immigration of Chinese into the Hawaiian Islands except upon such conditions as are now or may hereafter be allowed by the laws of the United States. and no Chinese by reason of anything herein contained shall be allowed to enter the United States from theHawaiian Islands. President. a careful study of the hearings before the Committee off Immigration ought to satisfy any unprejudiced person that the men who appeared before the committee in opposition to this bill are not so much concerned about this measure in particular as they are about the policy of exclusion in general.
