I did not say we were face to face with an immigration of a million of those people. I never said anything resembling it. What I said was that if you simply said in the law that every Chinaman calling himself a merchant or a teacher or a student is to be admitted and you apply no test to them. you would have a million Chinese laborers in this country in a very few years. But I do not suppose that anyone thinks of doing that. I have not yet heard a Senator rise here and say that he was against the exclusion of Chinese labor.
