I particularly represent the State of California as a State. under a commission issued by the governor of California. the commission extendb ig to the duty of pleading for California with members of the Congress. With a view to bringing about the enactment of a thoroughly satisfactory law for the exclusion of Chinese immigrants other than those permitted by the convention of 1894 between the United States and China to enter our territory. I also appear as the commissioned representative of a popular convention held in California in the closing days of November. a convention made upof i.000 delegates. representing civic. industrial. and other organizations of that �tate. I further appear as the friend and associate of the American Federation of Labor. as a result of conferences concerning the bill I purpose. with the indulgence of this committee. to discuss.
