Mr. Chairman. I shall not discuss the details of this bill. I have heretofore presented to the House a number of petitions urging the passage of a suitable Chineseexclusion act. The present Chineseexclusion law will soon expire by limitation. and the whole question of Chinese exclusion is once more before us for determination. Mr. Chairman. the Republican party is committed to the principle of tariff protection. We maintain that our manufacturers and laborers here ought to be protected against the cheaper labor of the olpcon Ilieve I he protective principle of the Republican party. and for the same reasons I belleve in a proper Chineseexcl.usion act.
