The spirit of liberty for which he had lost everything prompted him to join the forces of those who in the New World had pledged to each other their life and honor to maintain. He came here to prepare a place for the libertyloving people of his country and to lay the foundation of a country whose people are not only free. but who allow naturalization to all who desire to be. He laid down his life to secure for the United States the end he had hoped to attain for his own country.
