Speech #560045969

Mr. Chairman. the object of that amendmenit is plainly apparent from the reading of it. Since August 12. 1898. many thousand Chines and other Asiatics have been brought to the Hawaiian Islands under labor contracts. and they are there now. If this a edment be adopted these people will have to take themselves away or be taken away within a year after the taking effect of this act. and such o them as may fail to go at the expiration of that time will be there in violation of the laws for the exclusion of Chinese. and will he deported or otherwise dealt with. as other Chinamen violating the Chinese exclusion act.
